The Dashavatara is not a single image but a sequence —, held together on one continuous panel. VINOXO carves that sequence into solid teak, and the result is a wooden wall panel that reads as both a narrative and a decorative object.

Because the piece is made to order rather than pulled from a stack, the grain and the chisel marks differ from one panel to the next. That is not a flaw in the finish; it is the nature of a hand-carved teak artefact.

Why a Dasavatharam Wooden Panel Beats a Printed Frame

Printed reproductions of temple iconography are flat by definition — ink on a substrate. A carved panel is three-dimensional. The depth of the relief catches side light and changes through the day; a morning doorway and an evening hallway will show you different faces of the same carving. In a foyer, above a console, or behind a reception desk, that shifting shadow does the work that no print can.

The choice of solid teak over a lighter wood also matters for scale. At 120 × 30 cm or 150 × 30 cm and 5 cm thick, the panel has the mass to hold a long or double-height wall without looking like an afterthought. Smaller formats get lost there.

Cut from Solid Teak

Teak has been the wood of choice for Indian temple doors, window frames and carved furniture for centuries because it holds a fine cut and a deep grain. Here the brown timber is shaped into a rectangular panel in which the ten figures are arranged in a single register, each avatar given its own carved field. The piece is not veneered or pressed; it is cut from solid wood.

Two length options are produced to order: 120 × 30 cm and 150 × 30 cm, both with a 5 cm thickness. The colour is a natural brown — the tone of the wood itself, not a stain applied over it.

Installing a Panel of This Weight and Scale

Because the panel is 5 cm thick solid teak, it is best fixed to a solid wall or a wall with adequate reinforcement, and professional installation is recommended. Use it as the dominant feature of a wall rather than one element among many — the carving needs breathing space, and its proportions reward a centred position.

It also pairs well with stone or marble surrounds, where the warm brown of teak contrasts cleanly with cooler wall surfaces.

How It Is Made

Each Vishnu Dashavatara wooden wall panel is produced only after the order is confirmed. That allows the carver to work each avatar in turn without the time pressure of a batch line, and it means the finishing — sanding, edge work, the final rub of the surface — is attended to as one continuous process rather than as a production step.

Wood grain and the exact depth of each incision will vary slightly between panels. These are the marks of handwork, not deviations from a specification.

Care

Keep the panel out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from damp walls. Dust with a soft dry cloth; avoid soaking the wood or using abrasive cleaners, which can dull the surface and lift the grain.
